High school students who are currently in Year 10 and 11 as well as advanced Year 9 students are invited to participant in the UWA Academy for Young Mathematicians in 2015.

The program for the Academy is suitable for a broad range of mathematically able students. The aim is to broaden and deepen their mathematical knowledge, to involve them in problem solving and to extend the range of their mathematical skills.

All sessions of the Academy will be held on Saturdays from 10am to 11.45am on the following dates:

14, 21 and 28 March
9 and 23 May
6 June
1, 15 and 29 August
17 and 24 October
7 November

The sessions will be held in the Mathematics Lecture Room 1 of the School of Mathematics and Statistics, UWA. Parking should be available in Fairway.

During the sessions, in addition to problem-solving, students will receive printed handouts and problem sets, and will be expected to solve some problems for homework. Certificates will be awarded for excellent performance. The lectures at the Academy will be presented mainly by staff members of the Schools of Mathematics and Statistics of UWA. The preliminary program for 2015 (different from that in 2014) includes sessions on:

combinatorics and probability
coordinate and circle geometry
game theory and
problems from mathematics competitions.

Students can enrol online at the UWA Academy website. Early applications will be favoured.

The fee for the whole year, including printed material, is $50. Students are to supply their own stationery. Please do not included payment with your initial application.
