Specialist Arts Program

SPECIALIST ARTS PROGRAM

At Cecil Andrews College, our Specialist Arts Program embodies our college motto of Achieving Excellence Together by prioritising the holistic development of students. We foster creativity, confidence and motor skill development through a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages self-expression and collaboration.
By emphasising well-being and cultural awareness, students
are empowered to explore diverse artistic disciplines, develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Through our program, students not only excel artistically, but also cultivate essential skills for success in both their academic and personal endeavours.

OUR PROGRAM

Students who identify a passion for the Arts or who intend to following an Arts Pathway are encouraged to apply for our Specialist Arts Program.  Students will be streamed into specific classes of like-minded peers
who are dedicated to the expression of the Arts.  Specialist Arts students are expected to continue with
the program in Year 8. In Year 9 and 10 they have the opportunity to begin subject specialisation with a focus on
both semester and year-long courses, depending on what students select as a preference (all courses are subject to minimum numbers prior to running).

OPPORTUNITIES

Considerable opportunities for student participation in extracurricular arts events are made available throughout the school year including Arts Extension clubs in Music, Drama, Dance and Visual Arts at lunchtimes and after school.
Further extracurricular activities are also offered such as excursions to Visual Art exhibitions and showcase events, participation in arts performances and competitions such
as Suitcase Circus, Yo Fest and NEXUS Dance Festival, whole college musical productions and statewide Visual Arts competitions like the Shawn Tan Awards for Young Artists, META at North Metro TAFE and Young Originals.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The pedagogical goals behind the development of the Specialist Arts Program reflect the Cecil Andrews College motto “Achieving Excellence Together”.  Our Performing Arts staff are driven by a passion for education and the significance of students achieving excellence together. This passion focused our attention on the need for students to be successful, confident and independent learners. At the heart of all Performing Arts activities and programs, is the promotion of the following core values, which are inextricably linked to the Australian Curriculum:

  • The quest for excellence
  • Self-development
  • Team building and trust
  • Mutual respect
  • The recognition of individual worth
  • Improved self esteem
  • Self-acceptance and respect of self
  • Respect and concern for the rights of others and their individual rights
